In an authentic classroom environment, Katy Braband presents the activity Million Dollar Project to a class of Asian, Hispanic and Caucasian 4th grade students from Healy Elementary School in Chicago, Illinois. Before the lesson activity, students have read the story "Flat Stanley." Through the Internet, students research prices of homes and goods of a chosen state. Then using Excel spreadsheets, student teams spend a million dollars in setting up Flat Stanley and his family in a new home with the basic needs of food, transportation, clothing and entertainment.
